Gunzel Chair

rD by Ross Didier Collection | Ross Didier

The word gunzel originated from the Sydney Tramway Museum in the 1960s as a term for the harebrained rail fans from south-of-the-boarder ; ‘the Victorians’, who shot at things with cameras. Believed to derive from the American slang gunsel (“gangster or hoodlum who uses a gun”), popularised in books such as The Maltese Falcon in which a gunsel was implied to be somewhat foolish and reckless.

Engineered is solid timber, the Gunzel seating collection is designed with a smart and formal geometry, but retains an organic comfort that is sculpted into the backrest. Optional leather and fabric seat pads which sit flush within the framing and detailed with saddle stitching.

Armchair 811

TON | Josef Hoffmann

The armchair designed by Josef Hoffmann in 1930 blends his interest in Art Nouveau and simple shapes with manufacturing processes applied in Bystrice pod Hostynem since 1861. The armchair is therefore more geometrical, but bears the clear features of the manual bending technique of TON.
